My name is Preble Law. I have been designing, creating, and maintaining Web sites for 8 years. This is my personal site, with a showcase of my interests and (hopefully) of my skills in the Internet Publishing field.
I am seeking permanent employment in the Internet Publishing industry. I would like a position at a company where my knowledge of Web coding and standards can make a big impact. I am interested in Entry-to-Mid-level positions, while I work toward broadening my knowledge of industry leading software such as SQL, .Net, Cold Fusion, and J2EE.
I would also consider computer and Web tutoring positions, as support provider for Web publishing, or consultant projects.
Most of my "design" work involves implimenting existing designs, tweaking the designs to better suit the media, and maintaining the resulting Web sites. I worked for a small NESCAC college in Maine as one of only a handfull of people on-campus able to create XML templates and XSLT stylesheets for the Ingeniux iCMS program.
I focused on tailoring various sub-sites on the collegiate Webpage to the respective Editor's needs, while remaining well within the site-wide treatments. For example, four successive Sports Information Directors required a variety of changes to how event and news information were handled and displayed on the site. When Dining Services wished to publish the daily menu online, I designed the new feature.
I maintained the public relations department sites. This included uploading monthly slideshows, videos and audio components. I converted video and audio into QuickTime streaming format. I resized, cropped, and color corrected photos for Web publishing.
I also spent a great deal of time tutoring students and faculty about basic Web coding and also computer use. I diseminated information about anti-virus and spyware programs, as well as free editing tools. And I enforced both the AP styleguide and the college's own styleguide for the student and faculty population.
